Frequently Asked Questions...

Client Newsletters: FAQ

Some questions and answers about the Words4Business client newsletters for solicitors:

Q: Our newsletters take ages to write and take a huge amount of fee-earner time: what can we do about that?

A: Don't get the fee-earners to write them.

Q: If the marketing department write them, we still have to check them thoroughly, which takes ages: what can we do about that?

A: Get them written by qualified professionals! We do NOT use journalists for primary material.

Q: But how do you make material produced by qualified professionals lively and interesting?

A: Get the content edited by professional writers who know how to make it interesting to the reader.

Q: Wouldn't that cost a lot?

A: To do as a 'one off' it would. But because we produce similar material for dozens of firms, we can produce the content you need to be more successful, almost certainly for less than it would cost you to do yourself.

Q: Does this mean our competitors will be sending out the same things we are?

A: No, because the number of firms allowed to buy our newsletters will be strictly limited. In the case of ready to print material is exclusive to area. If we see an area getting 'full' we stop supplying to it.

Q: What about the risk?

A: Our material is produced by professionally qualified people, mainly with long experience in professional practice. It is then checked for accuracy and rewritten as needed by our editorial staff.

Q: Can we use it elsewhere?

A: Subscribers to our content services can republish content as and when they like, provided it is not re-sold. We are happy to discuss other arrangements if required. The ready to print material can only be distributed in printed form or as a download on your website.

Q: How do you know what to write about?

A: We keep up to date with legal news and developments and are constantly looking for those that will be the most interesting for and have the most impact on business and private clients. New and interesting points of law are not necessarily interesting for clients. We choose those that are and which are likely to lead to instructions for your firm. As well as the usual media sources, we take over 40 legal magazines and newsletters each month.

Q: What qualifications do you have?

A: Our content writers are highly qualified graduates (2.1 or better in an appropriate discipline from a Quality university) with relevant professional qualifications and practice experience. Our press release writers are mainly legal journalists. We currently (Oct 2007) use a barrister, two solicitors, a chartered accountant and three legal journalists to create material. All material is edited by a group of people who have at least 2.1s from Russell Group Universities and, in some cases, appropriate professional qualifications. The managing editor, Carrie Reevy, has a 2.1 in English and Classics from Exeter University and an MA in Classics from Southampton University (and a PGCE, which helps to ensure we get complex material explained simply!). We don't claim to be perfect, but we do think we have the best quality control in the industry.

We are happy to quote for the creation of bespoke material (for clients) within our sphere of expertise.

Q. What about the financial risk?

A: Not only do we demand no long-term contractual tie-in for most of our services (those that are not postcode exclusive), but we guarantee that if you decide (for any reason) not to publish what we send you and inform this within one month of receipt, we will refund your payment promptly and without question. We could not give this unique guarantee if we were not completely confident of the quality of our material. There, is therefore zero financial risk for your firm.

  Q. What about exclusivity?

A: Some of our products are postcode exclusive. Our content services are normally

not, but we stop supplying when we see there is a danger of overexposure. We will

consider exclusivity arrangements - please contact us.
